From the author: Jesus Christ came to me at a time of much distress. He is forever my best friend and first love. I love him with all my heart. The picture on the front cover is me when I was about four years old. My mum tells me I used to pray when I was little. She would find me on the sofa praying, in my bed praying, and in this picture, I am praying in front of a Christmas tree. Praying was not something I grew up with, and I did not go to kindergarten, so it must have been something I still remembered when I was little. These past 12 years of my life have stirred something inside me and helped me to recall the power of prayer. What a journey it’s been. More than once, I was convinced my life was over. I felt embarrassed by the way my life had fallen apart. I am not embarrassed anymore, and I am still here. This little girl is growing up, and I am praying for a different world where we do not kill each other and do not go to war against each other. I am praying for a world where we protect the sacred life on Mother Earth, where our children are safe, and where we take care of our elderly, the sick and the vulnerable. Today I understand that deep down I pray for myself because I am all that.

Anne-Lene Bleken (b. 1966) comes from Lillehammer in Norway with strong roots in the Western part of the country where her mother’s family come from. She has lived in Aarhus in Denmark since 1989 where she has an MA in English and Media. Bleken published her first novel, Olava, in 2012 and the sequel Anna Veronica in 2020.
